R&D at the RAMP factory in Park City

Thursday, May 2, 2013 10:10:47 AM America/Denver

rampslalomskiHello, Friends of RAMP, this is Kilch, President and CESnow.

So the prototyping and development rocks on. We’ve been testing the new 105 mm in several different sidecuts and flexes. It’s so cool to be able to test sidecuts as part of this process. I think we’re really unique in our ability to do that. Normally a company does the research to decide on the shape that is the future of a 105 mm type ski, width at tip, waist and tail along with camber and they commit to the tooling by buying the mol...

Frenzy Ski Review

Monday, April 1, 2013 10:02:16 AM America/Denver

FrenzySki: Ramp Frenzy, 179cm.

Location: Deer Valley, UT

Conditions: Many wind blown areas, 20-30 degrees F. 4-6 inches of wet snow two days prior, wet especially at lower elevations, causing the snow to become even softer once in sunlight. With higher edge degrees and edge angles, the chances of loosing your downhill edge and "hipping out" becomes greater as there is nothing to "hang onto." The snow simply falls away. So, it forces one to bend his knees to a great angle, lowering his center of gravit...

Spring Update

Thursday, March 28, 2013 5:29:22 PM America/Denver

RAMP showroomHello, Friends of RAMP, this is Kilch, President and CESnow.

We just got back form a long road trip doing more magazine tests, music events, and resort shop demos, a great trip overall. We still have the SKIING magazine test next week at Loveland, Colorado.  Really Fun Stuff.

I came back to our factory, which is busy with making the first snowboards. We even had Lindsey Jacobellis mold one. She’s working hard on knee rehab to be ready to dominate at the Olympics while not molding. We’re making ...

Jay Burke reviews the Groundhog

Thursday, March 28, 2013 10:50:45 AM America/Denver

No secret that RAMP is located in Park City, Utah. So it should come as no surprise to you this is where I make my home as well. Here is Utah we pride ourselves in offering "the greatest snow on earth." So because 90% of the time we are skiing on soft snow, the Groundhog makes a great ski for this area.

I'm going to be talking specifically about the 179cm Groundhog in this review. The ski specs out at 137-100-123, and the radius is 19.39m. It employes the 50%-50% camber and of course a vertical ...

Magazine ski test update

Wednesday, March 13, 2013 4:03:26 PM America/Denver

Outside ski testHello,
Friends of RAMP, this is Kilch, President and CESnow.

The last two weeks have been full of travel.  We were getting underway with magazine tests and music events and I feel that we did very well.

Outside and Mountain magazines ran tests at Snowbird on Feb 27, 28 and Mar 1 with great snow and weather.  I was very excited and proud of the fact that we were the only U.S. made skis at the test.  We were there with the big companies primarily and you never really know how you did until you se...

Woodpecker Review

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 3:37:09 PM America/Denver

We've had a period of time here in Utah this winter where the groomers are the only place you'll find Utah's "greatest snow on earth." And, who cares really, because ripping groomers on a pair of RAMP skis is so fun! I headed to Canyons Resort in search of the longest runs I could find so I could really let these skis run.

I was skiing the Woodpecker on a 179cm, which specs out at 123-90-111 and has a turn radius of 18.3m. It has the 65%-35% camber, which ensures a tip that doesn't hang-up. Ad... Read More

Winter Update

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 3:13:29 PM America/Denver

Team RAMPHello, this is Kilch, President and CESnow.

Friends of RAMP, what a wild fall-winter we’ve had here. Since opening our new factory we’ve been in a sold out situation. This is both good and bad. The good news is that the skis are already sold before they are even made. The bad news is people have to wait, big time pressure on our people, a mad scramble to get our new skis made. We added four more production workers so we could increase the output but still couldn’t keep up. The made in the USA an...

Continued ski testing at Mt. Hood

Friday, July 6, 2012 9:55:40 AM America/Denver

Mt. Hood lenticular cloud

Hello, this is Kilch, President and CESnow.

We finished another round of tests at Mt. Hood. There was still an amazing amount of snow and an army of camp kids there for racing and freestyle. What a scene. Very cool to see so many athletes on race skis, freestyle skis, and the same race and freestyle snowboard scene riding at such an incredibly high level.

We brought 15 more pairs of skis to test to verify final production constructions, graphic applications, times in the oven, etc. The new core...

Dialing the ski-making process

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 2:05:11 PM America/Denver

On the ChairHello, this is Kilch, President and CESnow

We are full speed into the prototyping and testing of our processes in order to begin production in July. With so much flexibility built into our new factory, we can test virtually anything because we can make any structure and shape. We have to take a very methodical approach to this so we keep isolating one single variable.

Our next Mt. Hood Test is going to be June 28-29. At that point, we have to decide which structures are giving the best perform...

New headquarters, new skis

Friday, June 8, 2012 1:59:40 PM America/Denver

Hello, this is Kilch, President and CESnow.

This has been an amazing spring at RAMP. We have purchased a new building, renovated and modified it, and moved in—all happening in the month of May, basically. In addition we set up a new manufacturing facility and are molding the first skis. We have developed a new manufacturing process, which is going to allow us tremendous flexibility and efficiency. We can create new shapes without having to create all new molds, which is a major breakthrough. We ...
