Get Factory Fresh

Have you ever wondered what steps need to be taken to get that fresh out of the factory tune back on your RAMP skis or snowboard? Here we will explain what tune, base pattern and magical spell you need to retune your gear to its original shape.

Ski Care

The side edge of your skis were originally set to a 2 degree. Some also call it a 88 degree depending on what side you look at it. The base edge was set to a 1 degree (also called a 89 degree by some) This is fairly industry standard for a ski that is loose enough edge to edge, but holds a beautiful bite when you tip them over to carve.

The base pattern we originally sent you is called a crosshatch right, with a structure depth of 13. Structure is like an irrigation system under your ski that either removes water away from your ski if you are in wet conditions, or holds water under your skis for dry conditions. The balance of this is what gives you excellent glide in all conditions.

Snowboard Care

The side edge of your board is set to a 2 degree. (Some also call it an 88 degree.) The base edge on our snowboards is also set to a 2 degree. We found that giving the base edge a bit more bevel allows the larger surface area of a snowboard to get from edge to edge a bit easier.

The base gets a lot more interesting. When looking at traditional snowboards you would be hard pressed to find one that actually had a flat base. Most are convex due to the top plastic shrinking during the molding process. Due to that most traditional boards come with a belt finishing on the base because it is easier to make a convex base appear clean and flat with a random sanding pattern. RAMP has discovered a way to get boards perfectly flat to the point we can then stone finish these boards for a much better and faster glide. The structure used on our boards is a crosshatch right just like our skis with a structure depth of 13.
